Blog World

Lately I have been finding a lot of inspirations in blogs.  Some of my favorites include A Cup of Jo, Design Crush, and Design Dig.  Of course APhotoEditor is awesome for everything photography.  I also enjoy perusing through ffffound.com.  Its a great place to find inspiration.  And of course all of these blogs link up to other blogs... the chain is endless.

More New Work!

This is from the same shoot I did a few weeks ago.  This was shot with a Hasselblad; it always amazes me how different my shots are with a Hassy as opposed to digital.  The shot below is digital.  Observe and decipher.

New Work!

This is an image from a shoot I did a few weeks ago.  I selected this image from the rest because I am interested in the model's vacant stare compared with the white space around her.  I enjoy doing test shoots because they allow me room to explore different moods and expressions.

Sea

I have always been lucky enough to live near the ocean.  I took this image because I was drawn to the beautiful light over the sea.  Lately I have been wondering why I decided to take this picture.  This has been my recent photographic struggle, to uncover what I am trying to say.  I take images for the sake of beauty, but I feel it is not so simple to say that is the only reason.  I also think it doesn't do me justice as a photographer to say that I simply look for beauty.  Why am I seeking beauty?  I am searching for the answer to this question.

Paolo Roversi

From time to time I would like to mention photographers that I admire.  Paolo Roversi's work has had a major impact on me.  I was always interested in fashion photography, but scared to go venture into that arena.  I felt fashion had to look a certain way, that is until I came across Roversi's work.  His images are haunting, beautiful, serene, and complex all at the same time.  His work demonstrates that fashion photography can move beyond what it is supposed to be and transform into art.  If you have not already seen Roversi's work, I urge you to take a look.

New Work!

I have been busy these past few days scanning and processing my film from last weeks fashion test shoot.  My website has been updated with new images and I invite you to take a look!  This is one of the images that I have included in the final edit.

hotel shoot

This is my first official blog.  I have been thinking a long time about starting a blog, but have to admit I had some hesitations, primarily that a blog might take time away from my photography and make me even more codependent on the Internet.  After some consideration though, I decided it might be a good place to voice my thoughts about photography and where I think I am as an artist.  So with that said... let me begin with a few words about my most recent shoot.

I shot this past Thursday in the East Bay.  I am in the process of scanning film and will get it up on my website as soon as its ready.  I am very excited to see what comes out of this shoot.  As my model Cat pointed out, the hotel decor was so bad it was good.  Here is an image I took there while location scouting.  I am excited to see if the character of the hotel translates to the image.  Cat was fantastic to work with, very versatile and open to pushing some boundaries.
